Roger Federer speaks out about Jannik Sinner and surprises everyone

Tennis legend Roger Federer, on the sidelines of the Laver Cup, spoke once again about Jannik Sinner and the current state of world tennis: “Who is the best tennis player in the world right now? I’d say Jannik Sinner right now, given his absolute dominance in the first half of 2026—he played brilliantly right up until his injury. He was the best up to that point and deserved his ranking.”

“Then there’s Carlos Alcaraz, who, when he’s at his best, is probably the best player around—and he knows it—and now there’s Sascha Zverev: he’s finally getting to where we all hoped he’d get one day. He’s won two Grand Slams, and we can say he’s now the man to beat because Sinner is coming off an injury, and so is Carlos,” King Roger told TNT Sports.

“So, of course, saying who’s the best is up for debate, but given the year Sinner has had, I’d say he’s the toughest player to beat right now.”

Sinner is expected to return to the court in Beijing after a three-month absence from competition following his Wimbledon final victory over Alexander Zverev. The Italian must defend a number of ranking points if he hopes to retain his No. 1 position in the ATP rankings.
