Andre Agassi Stuns Everyone with His Comments on Jannik Sinner and Darren Cahill

Currently in the spotlight at the Laver Cup as the non-playing captain of Team World, Andre Agassi has once again spoken about Jannik Sinner and Australian “supercoach” Darren Cahill, whom the “Kid from Las Vegas” knows very well, having had him as his coach during the final phase of his career, during which, in the summer of 2003, he became the “oldest” player of his era to reach the top of the ATP rankings, before that record was shattered in subsequent years by the legendary members of the Big Three (Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic).

In particular, however, Agassi emphasized that the relationship between Sinner and Cahill, which began in June 2022, cannot last forever: “I think every relationship between a coach and a player has an end,” said the former American tennis player in an interview with La Repubblica. “A truly great coach, in the end, almost makes his own job unnecessary.”

“Sooner or later, you teach what you know; you teach the player what makes him strong. And you learn from him, too. For a certain period, that makes you better as well. But then there comes a time when things can change, and a new voice can bring something different. But Sinner and Cahill have been extraordinary for each other,” Agassi concluded.

Cahill had already announced in 2025 his intention to retire from the tour, before Jannik Sinner convinced him to change his mind with an eye toward 2026. As for the future, the Australian supercoach offered no further clues: the end of the season—with the final Masters 1000 tournaments, the ATP Finals, and the Davis Cup (though there are still serious doubts about Sinner’s participation)—could be decisive in determining whether what Agassi said might come to pass as early as the end of 2026.
