Ferrari Crisis: Vasseur’s Numbers Aren’t Convincing: A Comparison with Binotto and Arrivabene

Ferrari is in crisis. In the last five Grand Prix races, the team hasn’t secured a single podium finish, and there’s a distinct sense that the other teams have pulled ahead. While other teams’ updates are performing exceptionally well, Ferrari’s updates aren’t yielding concrete results.

Everyone is under fire, particularly Vasseur. The team principal is cited as one of the problems at the Maranello team, so much so that there is talk of his possible replacement (former Red Bull team principal Horner has stepped forward).

Vasseur certainly bears some blame; his track record certainly doesn’t exonerate him. Since becoming Ferrari’s team principal (January 9, 2023), he has secured a total of eight victories with Ferrari—the same number as World Championship leader Antonelli in this single season. In total, Vasseur has eight Grand Prix wins and 47 podium finishes.

The comparison with the two previous team principals at the Maranello team is not encouraging; in fact, it should give pause for thought. Arrivabene, from 2014 to 2018, celebrated 14 Grand Prix wins in 81 races (with 71 podium finishes). Binotto, from 2019 to 2022, had seven Grand Prix wins and 47 podium finishes. In short, in terms of success, Vasseur lags significantly behind Arrivabene and has only one more win than Binotto.
