Sofia Goggia: An important date has been circled in red

Sofia Goggia will also be among the athletes attending the FISI Media Day, scheduled for Friday, October 9, starting at 11 a.m. In fact, the announcement released by the Federation confirmed the attendance of medalists from Milan-Cortina 2026 and the winners of the 2025–2026 World Cup: Goggia is on both lists, having won Olympic bronze in the downhill and the Super-G World Cup.

There is great anticipation surrounding the Bergamo native’s appearance, given what happened during the training camp in Ushuaia: a trip that was shorter than expected, cut short by an illness after which Sofia, on the advice of the FISI medical staff, chose to return to Italy for all necessary tests, opting to err on the side of caution.

In the meantime, the clinical picture has become clearer. The in-depth tests Sofia Goggia underwent in Milan revealed the presence of two distinct viral infections which, when combined, produced amplified physical effects, causing a severe state of debilitation. Goggia has already begun the recovery plan developed in collaboration with the FISI Medical Commission, chaired by Dr. Andrea Panzeri.

The Italian champion has also used these past few days to break her long silence on social media, which had worried more than a few of her fans: “Ushuaia 2026—a short, intense, and challenging trip! I’m very sorry I was forced to return early and had to miss part of my training, even though I’m very happy with how the first week on the slopes went,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Now that the truth has come to light and we’ve identified the problem, we can move forward to resolve it, but to do so we need time and a lot, a lot of patience… just like always. I am improving, yes, but I’m still quite weak right now. See you soon… nec recisa recedit (‘Though broken, it does not retreat,’ ed.).”

Meanwhile, the countdown to the 2026–2027 season is underway. The World Cup will kick off on October 24 with the traditional giant slalom in Sölden, while the first speed events are scheduled in Beaver Creek, in the United States, with the downhill races on December 11 and 12 and the season’s first Super-G on December 13. The highlight of the season will be the World Championships in Crans-Montana, scheduled for February 1–14, 2027.
