The former Italian national team player warns everyone about Jannik Sinner: “He’s tackling the problem once and for all”

Jannik Sinner has everyone on edge: the Italian, who has decided to skip the Beijing tournament as well, has not yet announced a definite date for his return and is training in Monte Carlo to test his knee. Former Italian tennis player Diego Nargiso told Tuttosport that Sinner has decided to tackle the problem “once and for all.”
“The concern is legitimate. I’m convinced that Jannik has chosen to address the issue once and for all. An injury like this rarely arises out of the blue: I believe it was already present and had been carefully managed with physical therapy and muscle strengthening until, at a certain point, it was no longer possible to keep it under control.”
“In the case of a chronic ligament issue—for example, in the ankles, as happened to me—the doctor often presents the athlete with a choice: undergo surgery, with longer recovery times and no absolute guarantee, or manage the situation in another way. But in Jannik’s case, I don’t think that’s the situation—otherwise he wouldn’t be able to train. I suspect it’s more likely inflammation that risks becoming chronic, which he wants to avoid at all costs.”
In any case, Nargiso remains optimistic: “Until five or six months ago, Jannik was healthy and playing every week, perhaps with some minor discomfort. He doesn’t have a joint compromised by surgery. Once the solution is identified, even significant inflammation can subside within three or four weeks, if accompanied by the right combination of rest, therapy, and gradual return to training. I don’t believe this will become a chronic problem for the rest of his career.”
