The Cristiano Ronaldo controversy continues to dominate the headlines in Portugal: after the match against Norway, where he spent 90 minutes on the bench, he did not greet the fans and headed straight to the locker room; in the days that followed, the controversy took a new, contentious turn.

According to reports from the Portuguese newspaper A Bola, CR7 showed up for training ahead of the match against Denmark but followed a personalized program and trained separately from the rest of the team. The Al Nassr star also left the training session early to return to the hotel in a vehicle provided by the federation.

An official statement explained that CR7 returned to train in the hotel’s gym, which is reportedly better equipped. At a press conference, head coach Jorge Jesus tried to calm the waters: “There’s no problem with Cristiano. We need to focus on Denmark and put everything else aside.” The coach’s reassurances did not have the desired effect, and many Portuguese fans expressed their concern on social media.

“If he didn’t greet the fans, it’s probably because he was frustrated, but that happens to everyone,” said Ruben Dias at a press conference. “It’s absolutely normal. There are no unresolved issues within the team, and we’re all focused on the next game.”
