Turin: Cairo Steps Up the Pressure on Ignazio Abate

Torino President Urbano Cairo spoke to *La Gazzetta dello Sport* about the Granata on the sidelines of the Trento Sports Festival: “I expected more from the first few games. We also had a demanding schedule, which might serve as a minor excuse, along with the fact that some players arrived at the last minute and are therefore not yet in top condition.”
Cairo sent a message to the coach: “Now we have three weeks to work with almost everyone; Abate is eager to prove himself and give it his all. I, along with the sporting director and all of us, support him.”
On Njie’s transfer to Fiorentina: “He loves playing on the wing, but in our current formation, we don’t have a spot for him there in the attack. He would have been sidelined a lot; we risked spending another year waiting for him without him ever really fitting in. I gave him the chance to go to Fiorentina, and he thanked me.”
Torino is currently in 14th place in the standings with four points from five matches. During the break, Abate has to do without 14 players, all of whom have left to join their respective national teams.
