Anna Kalinskaya’s run at the WTA 1000 in Beijing came to an end with a withdrawal. The Russian tennis player, seeded 15th, was forced to withdraw from her second-round match against China’s Qinwen Zheng during the third set.

Kalinskaya had managed to take the lead by winning a hard-fought first set in a tiebreak, 7-6, before Zheng fought back to take the second set, 6-4. In the third set, with the Chinese player leading 3-0, the Russian was unable to continue the match and threw in the towel, thus handing Zheng the victory and a spot in the next round.

Shortly before that, Anastasia Zakharova had also been eliminated, defeated by Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in two sets. The match, which lasted one hour and 43 minutes, ended with a score of 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).

Bencic finished the match with four aces and three double faults, managing above all to capitalize on five of the 17 break points she earned. Zakharova, on the other hand, recorded five aces and committed six double faults, converting both break opportunities she had during the match.
