Second consecutive EuroLeague victory—third if you include the domestic league— for Virtus Bologna, which defeated Bayern 97-84 at BMW Park in Munich, driven in particular by a 35-point first quarter and a 20-point, 9-rebound performance by Wendell Moore, who scored in double figures along with Klintman (15), Carr (13), Alston (11), and Frazier (10).

Following the game in Bavaria, Virtus coach Alex Mumbrú (who is also the head coach of the German national team) highlighted the factors that, in his view, contributed most to Thursday night’s success: “We started strong with our three-point shooting and showcased our style of basketball, which is all about speed and controlling the pace,” he said. “Since we’re a young team, a few mistakes are to be expected, but we put on a great performance.”

“For me, it’s always special to return to Germany,” the Catalan coach added. “I know Bayern very well; playing against this team is always a stimulating matchup. We did a good job of limiting their shooters—we’re talking about champions capable of turning the game around in a couple of minutes.”

With this win, Virtus Bologna now has two victories on the season (against Olympiacos and Bayern), following two losses in the opening rounds against Fenerbahçe and Olimpia Milano. They’ve also secured two wins in the league (with no losses in this case)—first on the road against Varese and then at home against Maxima Roma.
