Mass in suffrage for former national team striker Gianluca Vialli who passed away at age 58
Suffrage Mass in Cremona for Gianluca Vialli, the former Cremonese, Sampdoria, Juventus and Chelsea striker who passed away at the age of 58 after a long illness. The ceremony at Cristo Re Church, in the heart of the neighborhood that saw him grow up, was celebrated by Cremona Bishop Antonio Napolioni.
At the foot of the altar are Gianluca Vialli’s five jerseys: the grigiorossa of Cremonese, the blucerchiata of Sampdoria and the bianconera of Juventus, then the blue ones of the national team and Chelsea.
Attending were family members, Cremonese friends, Cremonese’s patron Giovanni Arvedi with the youth team, former players who shared a career with him on the field, from Fabrizio Ravanelli to Ciro Ferrara, Alessio Tacchinardi to Pietro Vierchowod, Marco Lanna to Attilio Lombardo and Angelo Peruzzi to many former Cremonese players.
“From the quality of our thoughts on Vialli,” the bishop said, “shines the quality of a man who was great in life and also in death. He knew how to play with a smile even the game of existence as well as on the field. He chose life and not evil, he did not let illness annihilate him. We are here to say thank you Gianluca.”
