Semi-automatic offside will debut in the Super Cup
Official debut in Supercup for semi-automatic offside
Semi-automated offside will make its debut in the Italian Super Cup final, scheduled in Riyadh next Wednesday between AC Milan and Inter Milan, and will then make its debut in Serie A starting on the first day of the return leg. The so-called Saot (Semi-Automated Offside Technology) was presented this morning in Lissone under the presence of Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo and designator Gianluca Rocchi.
“It is an important day, we were the first league in the world to have goal line techonology, the first to have Var and now the first to have semi-automated offside,” De Siervo said. We are proud of our refereeing class, which we trust. It is a work of several months, we tested it by putting referees in a position to use it. It is a tool that will resolve many doubts. We have been waiting for it to be cleared internationally since the World Cup in Qatar, the Super Cup is the first useful event.”
These are the words of Gianluca Rocchi: “With more frequent use, decisions will be automatic. A human decision will always be needed, but it is a tool that gives us a way to make fewer mistakes and shorten the time. Our job is to bring referees to the highest level. The dedicated chambers are exclusively for offside, it is something extra, a fundamental tool because of the way it is built.”
