Lewis Hamilton applauds Fernando Alonso: “Incredible to watch”
Beaten by the great rival, comes the applause at the end of the race.
Lewis Hamilton finished fifth at the end of the Bahrain Grand Prix, where his Mercedes finished behind the two Red Bulls and Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari, but also Fernando Alonso in an Aston Martin. And the seven-time world champion wanted to praise his longtime rival by acknowledging its merits. But also analyzing his new single-seater.
“I want to congratulate Alonso,” Hamilton said in fact after the race. He did a crazy job, it was incredible to see. But the same goes for the whole Aston Martin team. Half of their car is ours, since they built it and studied the aerodynamics in the Mercedes wind tunnel. And that shows how much work we have to do.”
“I don’t call myself worried,” Hamilton added about Mercedes, “I can’t say much, and I don’t want to say the wrong things. But we are not where we want to be, and we know this is not the right car. It is difficult to drive, but we remain positive. We have to keep working, because the Ferraris were in front, so we would have been sixth without Leclerc’s retirement.”
