Lorenzo Musetti, coach speaks: “He needs to shake it off.”
Lorenzo Musetti under pressure after disappointing Latin American tour
Lorenzo Musetti will try to bounce back in Indian Wells after a disappointing tour of Latin America, where he failed to express his best tennis.
From the pages of Corriere dello Sport, his coach Simone Tartarini sent him a clear message: “The important thing is to leave behind this trip, which was negative from the point of view of results, but still offered some insights. We arrived thinking we would find different conditions: balls, fields, a more European-like ground. Instead they turned out to be different in each tournament. In Buenos Aires he felt fit, won the first match against Pedro Cachin despite not playing well and then lost the second match. He blamed that defeat and from there he began to find it more difficult to settle in and to take a very negative attitude.”
“There is Indian Wells, we hope to get back up soon. He needs to metabolize, understand and and shake off negativity and pressure that he himself contributes to create. He needs to calm down and go from there. His 20s make him approach things with great enthusiasm, on the other hand at the first difficulty he tends to demoralize. These ups and downs also come from how you manage these things, and for a 20-year-old boy it’s all more complicated.”
