F1, Fernando Alonso tough after the penalty
Fernando Alonso did not take the penalty that relegated him to fourth position well at all: “Giving a penalty after the podium and at thirty-five laps after the pit stop is a bad figure on the part of the FIA,” he said after the race.
The driver finished the race in third place but, after being rewarded, was penalized 10 seconds and relegated to fourth. It would have been podium number 100 of his career: “Formula 1 fans don’t deserve such a spectacle. Knowing this beforehand would have allowed me to open a gap, instead the investigation was not even communicated. In the end, however, it doesn’t change that much for us: we go from 15 to 12 points won,” Alonso told Sky Sports.
Great sportsmanship from George Russell, who went from fourth to third place: “It’s not my podium that’s mine today, it’s Fernando’s. I think the penalty was very harsh on him, he deserved to be there. However, I was satisfied with my performance on the track, with fourth place ahead of the Ferraris after very good qualifying. We went beyond the potential of the car this weekend.”
