F1, Australian GP: Max Verstappen wins a crazy race
Great show of strength by the reigning World Champion. Good Hamilton
In Australia, in a completely crazy race, Verstappen comes roaring back. The two-time reigning World Champion, after a bad start (overtaken by Russell), is initially helped by a red flag that, in fact, resets everything. Forced to restart with two laps to go due to the second red flag, the Dutchman puts in the high gears and never looks back, taking home his second win of the season (out of three races held).
Also smiling was Hamilton, who finished in second place, thanks to Russell’s exit (engine failure). On the podium step the usual, immense, Alonso. chews bitter Leclerc who ends up in the gravel after the first few corners (contact with Stroll). Sainz is penalized for contact on the last restart and loses fourth place. First points for the McLarens of Norris and Piastri. Now almost a month’s stop. They will be back on track in Baku on April 30.
