Lorenzo Musetti beats Francis Tiafoe and flies to the round of 16 in Rome
Internationals of Italy: Lorenzo Musetti hits the round of 16
Lorenzo Musetti beat Francis Tiafoe in three sets (5-7 6-4 6-3) after more than two and a half hours of play in a match that was played over two days due to rain.
On Monday evening the set count was tied: Tiafoe had won the first after recovering a break disadvantage and taking advantage of a bloody double fault by the Italian on set point; the second partial had gone to Lorenzo 6-4, making use of the double break lead he had won in the seventh game. Then came the rain that suspended the match at 2-1 in favor of the Italian.
Back on the court, Musetti left no chance for Tiafoe by winning 4 of the last 6 games and closing on the second useful match point. The Carrara-based tennis player thus reached the round of 16 where he will face already in the evening Stefanos Tsitsipas, Lorenzo Sonego’s executioner.
