Trieste basketball, luxury friendly lights up preseason
Pallacanestro Trieste, friendly match against Baskonia announced
Pallacanestro Trieste has announced a luxury friendly that will test the Giulians ahead of their return to Serie A: the team coached by Jamion Christian will face Baskonia, a Spanish league club that is a regular presence in the Euroleague, where it reached the playoffs last season,
on Sept. 20.
The stage for the event will be the Fernando Buesa Arena in Vitoria, home arena of the four-time Spanish champion club. Coaching the Basques will be Pablo Laso, whom the Trieste environment remembers as an red-and-white player in the 1998/99 season, in which he played 18 games before being cut from the roster and later transferring, in March, to Malaga.
"The ambitions of Pallacanestro Trieste – explains the Julian club in the note announcing the friendly – also pass through appointments of this caliber, which confirm the international ambitions of the club, which for the first time will face abroad a club capable of bringing home 18 victories in the last Euroleague by finishing as eighth at the Play In tournament".
After bitter relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season, Pallacanestro Trieste regained a place in Serie A twelve months later, going all the way in the Serie A2 playoffs and defeating, at the end of a hard-fought series, Pallacanestro Cantù three games to one.
