Xander Schauffele triumphs in Scotland
The 152nd edition of The Open è was won by Xander Schauffele. The California golfer triumphed in Scotland, winning the second Major of his career. After winning the PGA Championship last May, the 30-year-old from San Diego added the world’s oldest tournament to his palmarès as well, lifting the prestigious Claret Jug. This achievement comes just before the Olympics, where Schauffele has already won a gold medal in Tokyo.
It has not been since 2018, with Brooks Koepka (winner of the U.S. Open and PGA Championship), that a player won two Grand Slam events in the same year. At Royal Troon Golf Club (par 71) in Ayrshire, Schauffele, who had finished the third round in second place, won $3,100,000 out of a total prize pool of $17,000,000.
