Paris 2024 Olympics, Nadia Battocletti silver in the 10000, Andy Diaz bronze in the triple!”

At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games second and third medals for Italy in athletics, which boost the total of the Italian expedition to 36. They were won by Nadia Battocletti, silver in the women’s 10000, and Andy Diaz, bronze in the men’s triple jump.

Especially crazy is the medal of the 24-year-old Trentino native from Cles, who after a bitter fourth place, which initially looked like a bronze, in the 5000, over the longest distance set a new Italian record in 30’43”35, surrendering only to Kenyan Beatrice Chebet, gold in 30’43”25. Bronze was won by Ethiopian-born Dutchman Sifan Hassan, third in 30’44”12.

Also extraordinary was Diaz, Cuban-born and an Italian since last year, who on the’last jump è sprinted to 17.64, his personal season record, improving by one centimeter over his first attempt and winning the same metal won by his coach Fabrizio Donato in London 2012. The podium è all of former Cuban athletes: the gold è went to Spaniard Jordan Alejandro Diaz with 17.86, the silver to Portuguese Pedro Pichardo with 17.84.

The two medals came almost at the same time: it’s not the case to make comparisons with Gianmarco Tamberi’s and Marcell Jacobs’s two gold medals of August 1° 2021 but they are still an extraordinary event for the Italian colors. Italy’s medal table è arrived at 36 precious metals, 11 golds, 12 silvers and 13 bronzes, 4 lengths behind the Tokyo haul but with one more gold.
