Twenty-fourth success in 2024 for Tadej Pogacar

Tadej Pogacar put the icing on the cake of an extraordinary season by winning Saturday the 2024 edition of the Giro dell'Emilia, one of the longest-running races on the international calendar (the first edition dates back to 1909). For the Slovenian of UAE Team Emirates, who arrived alone at the finish line in his rainbow jersey won in Zurich last September 29, è it was the first success in the Emilia race after two consecutive second places, in 2022 behind Enric Mas and in 2023 behind compatriot Primoz Roglic.

Pogacar thus è took another revenge by routing the competition in the final part of the race that started in Vignola and arrived at the height of the Basilica of San Luca in Bologna, after a 210-kilometer route: the runner-up, Thomas Pidcock of Ineos Grenadiers, è arrived at 1'54", in the small group that included Davide Piganzoli of Team Polti Kometa (lowest step of the podium for the first of the Italians) and Michael Woods of Israel-Premier Tech.

Nothing to do for another of the most &ugly expected men, Remco Evenepoel: the Belgian tried to sprint at the start of the first of the five climbs to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of St. Luke, but after Pogacar’s decisive response, he decided, d'agreeing with his team, Soudal-Quick Step, to withdraw and save his strength for the Tour of Lombardy.

For Pogacar è success number 24 in the season: a ride that began right in Italy, with the triumph in the Strade Bianche, and continued with successes at, among others, the Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France, as well as in the World Championships road race.
