George Russell attacks FIA
The removal of race director Niels Wittich with three GPs to go in the season has sparked criticism among Formula 1 players. For all, George Russell spoke out in his capacity as a representative of the drivers of the GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers' Association).
The Mercedes Briton said the drivers "were not aware" of the decision. "There are several of us who feel a bit fed up with this whole situation. We often feel we are the last to be informed about matters that affect us closely" he added.
Russell admitted that not everyone was completely satisfied with some aspects of the job of Wittich, who became race director at the start of the 2022 season. The German è has been replaced by Rui Marques — former Formula 2 and Formula 3 race director — starting in Las Vegas this weekend.
"It è not a secret that some people were not happy with what was happening in terms of decisions made,” Russell commented, “but he worked together with us and we could have helped to improve the matter".
