Foil World Cup: women’s Italy triumphs in Busan
Busan è all blue: Italy è d’gold in the team event beating the USA
Busan è all blue: women’s foil Italy also triumphs in the team event in South Korea, capping an all-gold expedition in the second seasonal World Cup stage of the specialty. A success penned by the quartet composed of Arianna Errigo, Martina Favaretto, Anna Cristino and Elena Tangherlini, who, beating the United States of America in the final, made the notes of the Mameli Hymn resound just 24 hours after yesterday’s individual competition (won by Tangherlini, with Cristino bronze).
The day of the Italian women è began with a wide victory over Romania in the round of 16 45-13. In the quarters, the Italian quartet overcame China with a score of 45-32. Still a clear success in the semifinals for Italy, which got the better of France with a score of 45-19, securing the certainty of the medal that had escaped in the first Cup stage two weeks ago in Tunis.
The final match replayed the never-ending challenge against the United States of America (Lee Kiefer, Lauren Scruggs, Zander Rhodes and Delphine Devore): captain Arianna Errigo and her teammates commanded the assault from the first fractions, rejoicing in the 45-35 verdict that brought Italy’s foils back to the highest step of the podium.
Thus ends a great trip to Busan for the women’s foil group of CT Stefano Cerioni (in Korea present the staff masters Giovanna Trillini, Alessandro Puccini and Eugenio Migliore) with two golds in as many competitions, thanks to Elena Tangherlini’s success in the individual and today’s team victory, to which is added the bronze won yesterday by Anna Cristino.
