Fear for Federica Brignone who fell during the giant slalom at the ongoing Absolute Championships in Val di Fassa. The World Cup-winning Italian was airlifted by helicopter to Trento’s hospital.

The Valle d’Aosta athlete –reportedly –straddled a door with one arm and lost her balance, falling ruinously. She was first rescued and taken to the valley by toboggan, and then transported to the hospital by helicopter where investigations are under way, the outcome of which is awaited in a bulletin.

The dynamics of the fall suggest an accident not without consequences: it is feared a fracture of the tibial plateau, or alternatively an involvement of the knee, but only ongoing examinations will define the situation.

Fisi doctors are in contact with the medical staff of Trento’s hospital, and once the initial examinations are completed and the diagnosis formulated, they will consider whether to transfer Brignone to the Madonnina clinic in Milan, where the federation&#8217s medical committee usually relies.
