Javier Zanetti does not forget Pope Francis’ passion for soccer

Javier Zanetti spoke to Sky Sports about the death of Pope Francis: “I remember his passion for soccer. He was a San Lorenzo fan, when I met him he told me from memory the formation of the Argentine league champion team. And that shows how much he cared about soccer. And then we talked about my founding of Inter, our national team because being Argentine that made the bond even more special. Honestly this morning when I heard the news my mind and heart went back to those moments when I first met him. And I will carry within me these moments that he gave us”.
“In my first meeting talking about my foundation she came up with the’idea of making this match. I immediately said yes and made myself available to be able to organize it. Honestly, it was a success not because of the match itself but because of the message he wanted to convey to the world, which is this union with all religions. I think it was a match that was seen all over the world, and the message that he wanted to get across got to all the people of this world”.
“He did not create any distance. When you met him you felt him very close, and I think that is the most beautiful thing that he conveyed to the whole world. He was very simple, humble, when you talked to the Pope you found a serenity and when he talked to you he transmitted this love. He was very nice in the details and the particulars. I think this Pope will be remembered that for the person he was”.
