Umberto Gandini recalls Pope Francis’ passion for basketball

Interviewed in the radio program “Passione Sportiva” on “Radio Sportiva,” the President of the Basketball League Serie A Umberto Gandini recalled the moment when he participated in an audience with Pope Francis.

“It was in 2021 on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Italian Basketball Federation when, thanks to President Petrucci and his good offices, the Pope received a delegation of Italian basketball”.

“On that occasion, Pope Francis also recalled his love for basketball, which he described as an important and noble discipline, capable of elevating humanity to the heavens, being an upward-tending sport. In particular, he stressed that since we are used to always keeping our heads down and our eyes toward the ground, basketball helps elevate the spirit with all its gestures and movements.”
