Good debut in Madrid for Anna Kalinskaya

Anna Kalinskaya made her debut in the Madrid WTA 1000, after taking advantage of a bye in the first round as the number 30 seed, and it was a positive debut:The Russian, Jannik Sinner’s fiancée, beat Frenchwoman Diane Parry from the qualifiers with a score of 7-6 6-4 in an hour and 45 minutes of play.

Only two break points in the entire first set and it was Kalinskaya who saved them, recovering from 15-40 in the second game. It goes to the tie-break, in which Anna flies 3-0 and then 6-1, misses three set points but the fourth is the good one.

The Russian loses her serve for the first time at 2-2 but immediately recovers the break in the next game. On 5-4 Anna misses two consecutive match points but the third, after she saves a 5-5 ball, is the good one.

Kalinskaya will now meet the winner of the match between U.S. world number 5 Madison Keys and Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti.
