Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori bid farewell to Toronto amid regrets

Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori’s participation in the doubles draw in Toronto ended at the first hurdle: the Italian pair, despite a tight fight that lasted exactly two hours, in fact succumbed to the day’s opponents, Argentines Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. 7-6(5), 7-5 was the score at the end of the match played on cement.
Not a few regrets for the two tricolor representatives: in the first set, in fact, they lost four consecutive games after being ahead 5-3 with a chance to serve to win the fraction, while in the tie-break the Italian pair squandered a 5-point-to-2 lead, suffering a 5-3 counter-break.
Somewhat similar in the second set as well: Bolelli and Vavassori took a 4-2 lead, but the Argentine pair reacted vehemently, first restoring the balance and then with a brilliant final sprint with which they put their signature on the success, although the two Italians could serve to go to the tie-break again.
Ahead of the US Open, then, it remains to be seen what Bolelli and Vavassori’s true state of form is, whether that of Washington, where they broke the bank by taking victory in the finals against Nys and Roger-Vasselin, or those of Toronto, where they failed to make it past the first round.
