Cincinnati Masters 1000: Luciano Darderi withdraws against Comesana

Luciano Darderi lasted less than a set in his debut at the Cincinnati Masters 1000. The Azure, the 29th seed, retired against Francisco Comesana, world number 71, at the score of 6-4 3-1 in favor of the Argentine.
In the first set, it was the serve that dominated until 5-4 Comesana. At the change of court, however, Darderi calls for the physiotherapist’s intervention for a back problem. When the match resumed, the Italian-Argentine suffered the break at the most beautiful moment, delivering the first set in the hands of the South American with his seventh double fault.
In the second set, the situation worsens with Darderi increasingly struggling physically: in the fourth game the Azure suffers the break at zero and raises the white flag with the pain in his back now become unbearable.
After the Bastad-Umago double, Darderi was halted by physical problems both at the Toronto Masters 1000, forced to retire without even having played, and here at the ‘Cincinnati Open‘: the hope for the Italian-Argentinean is that he will be able to recover in time for the Us Open, which kicks off next August 24.
