Gianluigi Donnarumma, Luis Enrique breaks silence and speaks out

The path of PSG and that of Gianluigi Donnarumma are now destined to part and even the coach of the reigning European champions, Luis Enrique, has confirmed not too indirectly that the club’s choice is to say goodbye to the Italian goalkeeper. Speaking to the microphones of ‘Sky Sport‘ on the eve of the European Super Cup, the Asturian coach swept away all doubts after Gigio’s nonconvocation.
“We are talking about not only one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but also a beautiful person – said Luis Enrique -. However, the life of the footballer at a high level, and it is the same for us coaches, is this: it was not an easy decision, but I take one hundred percent responsibility. On the other hand, if these choices were easy, anyone would make them”.
On the motivations behind PSG’s decision to rely on new arrival Lucas Chevalier by putting Donnarumma on the market, Luis Enrique did not want to blurt out too much more: “The decision has to do with the goalkeeper profile my team needs, there are no other outstanding issues”.
Marquinhos, speaking shortly afterwards, also briefly addressed the issue: “Football is like that, Gigio has given us so much and he deserves the best for his future, we wish him the best. I have been here for 12 years, I have seen many such moments: friends and great players who come and then leave. We cannot do much, this is how the soccer market works”.
