European Cup in Obereggen: a lion’s Friday

The Obereggen European Cup is preparing to celebrate its 42nd edition: the date is set for Friday, December 19, on the famous Maierl slope, with a gradient reaching 55 percent. The Obereggen men’s slalom is now a classic on the international calendar, as well as the traditional prologue to the World Cup slalom in Italy, scheduled this year in Alta Badia on December 22.
In the last edition, France’s Antonie Azzolin won with a time of 1:40.09, beating Finland’s Jesper Pohjolainen (1:40.13) and Norway’s Andreas Sandvik (1:40.14) by a whisker.
The track will, as always, be prepared by the organizing committee led by chairman Eduard Pichler and vice chairman Simon Neulichedl, with the support of the Obereggen Latemar SpA facilities company (chaired by Siegfried Pichler and directed by CEO Benjamin Kirchmaier).
Fundamental also is the cooperation of the Amateur Sports Association Nova Ponente chaired by Florian Zelger, and the Obereggen Ski and Snowboard School directed by Thomas Prinoth.
Obereggen’s gaze is already looking beyond, however: the Latemar ski area will in fact continue its sports season until 2026, with major events dedicated to snowboarding and freestyle in the snowpark, which is recognized as one of the international cradles of these disciplines.
