Gianmarco Pozzecco makes 50: "Happy and curious"

Against Latvia, Gianmarco Pozzecco will celebrate his 50th bench in the national team, equaling Meo Sacchetti and becoming the eighth coach with the most appearances ever in the Azzurro. Fiftieth appearance also for Simone Fontecchio, the team’s top scorer in friendlies with an average of 18 points in three games. Special game also for Marco Spissu, who will reach the 500 mark with 2 points.

Against the Baltics, led on the bench by coach Luca Banchi, it will be a different game from Trieste. Since then, the Latvians have played two other friendlies, losing in the “derby” against Lithuania 109-105 and then winning with Slovenia 100-88.

“We are happy and curious to face this tournament of such a high level,” Pozzecco said. “These are the last two friendlies before the debut and neither of them will be easy. We have welcomed Gallo and these days we are training to complete his and Darius’ insertion. Latvia and Greece will be two fascinating challenges and will test us. Playing then at OAKA is always stimulating”.

“The team is giving its best in training and also from this tournament I am sure that, beyond the results, we will get the best out of it to be ready on August 28” added the helmsman of the Azzurri.
