When Jasmine Paolini plays at the US Open: background with Markéta Vondroušová

Jasmine Paolini will play her US Open women’s singles third round match tomorrow and her opponent will be Markéta Vondroušová.

The Czech, 26 years old, three less than the Italian, was a finalist at Roland Garros in 2019 but more importantly a Wimbledon champion in 2023, the year in which she climbed to world number 6. She is currently number 60 and Paolini number 8.

This year Vondroušová won, on grass as at Wimbledon, her third career tournament on the WTA major circuit in Berlin. Jasmine also made it to three tournament wins by triumphing in Rome on the clay of the Foro Italico last May.

The two will take the court no earlier than 7 p.m. Italian time on the Grandstand. Only one previous, dated 2017, and it was Vondroušová who won, 7-5 6-2 in the last round of the WTA 250 qualifier on Swiss cement in Biel (or Biel).
