Jannik Sinner got off to a strong start in the US Open: after a first-round victory over Czech Vit Kopriva, giving up just four games, the Blue also overwhelmed Australian Alexei Popyrin, this time conceding only seven games in three sets to his opponent.

Sinner equaled Roger Federer&#8217s record of consecutive wins in Grand Slam concrete tournaments, and now he is already looking ahead to his next challenge, against Denis Shapovalov, who beat him in the only previous one played in 2021. The Canadian, just like Alexei Popyrin, said he has a definite plan in mind to stop the Blue’s progress.

“I remember the match I played with Sinner at the Australian Open 2021: it was very tough – he told the press conference.

I think I won in five sets, but it was a very hard-fought and difficult first round. It makes me happy to think back to that match, but a lot has changed. Sinner has really improved a lot, but I have also grown and look forward to facing him”.

“These matches excite me, I know I will have fun and I am ready to take the field. Jannik has many strengths and no weaknesses, he is solid in every aspect of the game”.

Shapovalov explained how he will face the South Tyrolean: “I will have to create game and try to dominate from the backcourt. I must not pull my arm back, because he will not give me anything. I have to take advantage of the opportunities that come my way and I will have to be aggressive not to let him dominate the exchange”.
