Luciano Darderi, world No. 34, succumbs sharply as predicted to No. 2, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, with a score of 6-2 6-4 6-0 in the third round of the US Open men’s singles.

Alcaraz immediately goes 3-0 up with a break lead and the second break, at zero, he made it on 5-2 automatically pocketing the first set. On the fourth break ball, after missing three consecutive ones, the Murcian makes another break at 2-1 in his favor in the second set.

Darderi, however, manages to recover to 4-4 by making the counterbreak at 2-4 and saving two break points at 3-4. But it is just a flare-up because on 5-4 for Alcaraz the Italian-Argentinean loses the serve again and consequently the second set.

The third set did not have a break point.

The third set had no history and the match ended after an hour and 44 minutes of play. Alcaraz in the round of 16 will face France’s Arthur Rinderknech, who beat compatriot Benjamin Bonzi 4-6 6-3 6-2.
