Daniil Medvedev is living a nightmarish 2025, culminating with his elimination at the US Open conducive to controversy and final rant with the usual racket smash. Gilles Cervara, the French coach who has been following the Russian athlete for eight years, announced his farewell in a statement posted on social media.

“Daniil, our fantastic adventure of eight seasons together comes to an end. Like a symbolic sign of destiny, it is after this US Open that our partnership comes to an end. I am grateful and happy for all the good things and wonderful experiences we have been able to enjoy together on the court during these eight years. They will forever remain etched in my memory”, Cervara wrote.

“I thank you for the trust you placed in me. I gave EVERYTHING, every second, for our common goals. I have loved coaching you, guiding you, supporting you (even in difficult times), and finding solutions together with you and the team to help you perform at your best”, continued the French coach on Instagram.

Medvedev won.

Medvedev has not won a tournament since 2023, and in this 2025 he has never made it past the second round in a Grand Slam event:“I will always carry with me your unconventional magic as a player, which is your strength. It will come back, I am sure. I wish you all the success you desire as an athlete in the future. And a happy life as a man – concluded Cervara -. The road continues, work and performance call us both… And I wish you both the best”.
