Vuelta: Marc Soler exults in La Farrapona, Jonas Vingegaard adds 2" to first place

Marc Soler, rider of the UAE Team Emirates XRG, won the fourteenth stage of the Vuelta a España 2025, starting in Avilés and finishing uphill in La Farrapona/Lagos de Somiedo after a 135.9-kilometer route characterized, in addition to the final climb, by another first-category GPM at Puerto de San Lorenzo, 30 kilometers from the end.
The Spanish rider arrived alone at the finish line, 39″ ahead of the top two in the general classification, Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) and Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates XRG), who completed the stage podium. Thanks to the bonuses, Vingegaard added 2″ to his lead over Almeida, bringing him in the overall standings to 48″.
Of note at the finish was the sixth position of Italy’s Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), who confirmed his lead in the youth standings and thus retained the white jersey, albeit with the same time as U.S. Matthew Riccitello (Israel-Premier Tech). Pellizzari is also sixth in the overall standings, 4’21” behind Vingegaard.
The Vuelta continues on Sunday, September 7, with another challenging stage, which will take the riders in the race from A Veiga/Vegadeo to Monforte de Lemos: 167.8 kilometers in total in a stage that will start immediately with the first-category climb of Puerto a Garganta, and then continue without further steep climbs, while remaining in constant up and down until the finish.
