Jannik Sinner tries, but at Flushing Meadows he can do nothing against a Carlos Alcaraz at the top of his form and talent. The U.S. Open thus goes to the Spaniard, who is able to beat in four sets the South Tyrolean champion who stays in the match for 2 hours and 42 minutes. It ends 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 for the number 2 in the ATP ranking. For him it is the sixth Slam title of his career, the second this year after Roland Garros obtained just against the San Candido outfielder.

The challenge on the concrete at Flushing Meadows turns out to be faster than expected, with the first three sets all being resolved in less than three quarters of an hour with one of the two protagonists able to dominate his rival. And in the first one to do so is Alcaraz himself, who takes the first break as early as the opening game, concedes only crumbs to Sinner and even snatches his serve for 5-2 going on to close the score in just over half an hour.

Sinner, who appeared in great difficulty, however, reared his head again in the second set. Here it is he who takes a one-game lead thanks to the 3-1 break, with Alcaraz not responding and allowing the blue to even the score. It was a different story in the third set, in which the Iberian champion even took a 5-0 lead by making the most of only three break points. The dazed South Tyrolean only managed to make the sixth game his own, only to surrender already on the first set point after just half an hour of play.

Those who would have expected a collapse in the fourth set, however, evidently don&#8217t know Jannik Sinner: the first game proves to be eternal, but the blue player wins it after no less than 14 points and two break points finally nullified by his rival. There remains great balance and a tension that slices through, but Alcaraz regains a one-game lead by snatching serve for 3-2. The world’s No. 1 tennis player struggles, but has no way to bring himself back into a tie again. So his opponent serves for the win, is bricked by Sinner twice, but on the third attempt he takes the US Open 2025.
