During ‘Domenica Sportiva’, broadcast on Rai 2, Adriano Panatta commented on Jannik Sinner&#8217s defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the Us Open final, which cost the Azzurro dearly, who was bypassed at the top of the ATP ranking by the Spaniard himself.

“He played much better Alcaraz, apart from the second set where Sinner tried to up the pace and succeeded and the’other was a bit disunited – stressed the Italian tennis legend -. Alcaraz however was always in control of the match, he played at a level of speed and technical solutions that even the best Sinner would have had a lot of difficulty beating him”.

“I expected a match a little bit’ more hard-fought honestly – he later admitted -, however, I immediately saw Alcaraz do 7-8 things in the first set in all parts of the court and I knew it was looking bad. That turned out to be accurate later. However, even after this defeat everything remained the same, they are two great champions. Sinner is impressive when he can impose his game, but Alcaraz honestly has more technical solutions that are not easy to put in place, but today he pulled it off and a little more showed it. Maybe next time, though, Sinner wins in three sets…”.

“Alcaraz played at a very high level, an impressive thing. This guy has a crazy physique: he is made of rubber, he makes almost impossible recoveries and he also often has ball control in those situations. Then with his forehand he shot stronger than Sinner, who did not serve very well today” concluded Panatta.
