After Giulio Pellizzari, another Italian in front of everyone at the Vuelta: it was Filipppo Ganna who won the 18th stage, a time trial with start and finish in Valladolid and shortened due to the risk of new protests.

The Italian champion made a comeback victory over Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates XRG), crossing the finish line in 13’00”, just one second ahead of the leader in the polka-dot jersey of mountain grand prix leader. Third at eight seconds was Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates XRG).

“It was not an easy time trial, partly because in the first part I could not find the right pace. In the second, however, I pushed as hard as I could. I am happy for today’s win and for this last week, which has been very good for us” commented Ganna.

“After the crash at the Tour and the subsequent ones, it was not easy to get right back on the bike and regain my condition. Every time I always try to give my best. I came to this stage after suffering so much in this Vuelta. I faced so many climbs and for a big guy like me it is not easy”.

“After so much suffering from the crash and the injury, I put myself back in the game once again and to be able to score a win again today is a good sign. We started well the week before with Egan’s win and then today with mine. The Vuelta, however, is not over yet and we will try to arrive in Madrid happy”.
