Torino ready to resume, Giovanni Simeone sends clear message

With one point in their first two games, Torino has certainly not experienced the start to the season that they expected, although their first two opponents, Inter and Fiorentina, were certainly not match-worthy opponents. On the horizon is another difficult challenge, that of Sunday, Sept. 14, against Roma, at the home of the Giallorossi. The Granata need a shake-up, and trying to give it, with a clear message on their social profiles, is one of the latest arrivals, Giovanni Simeone.
“There’s no time to relax”, wrote the ‘Cholito’, tagging his new club. A clear and direct message aimed at charging the Granata’s environment after the 5-0 loss suffered at San Siro against Inter in the first day and the blank-net draw in the second round of the championship, against Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
The’arrival of Simeone represents one of the most significant blows of the Torino’s summer buying campaign. President Urbano Cairo had confessed that he had tried to bring him to the Granata back in 2017, but when Fiorentina got the better of him. “I wanted to get Simeone already that season, but then I couldn–t make it – Cairo had told Sky Sport -. I followed him at Fiorentina, Cagliari and also at Verona, where he had a fantastic championship. I also saw him at Napoli and there, noticing that he had little space, I tried again to get him but we didn’t make it. We tried again, then finally this year we succeeded”.
The Argentine striker arrived from Napoli on an onerous loan with a buy-back obligation, signing a contract until June 30, 2028 with an option for the following season. With the partenopei, he won two Scudetti, in 2023 and 2025, and made his Champions League debut by immediately scoring a goal in the 4-1 win over Liverpool. His arrival at Torino completed an offensive department that can now also count on Duvan Zapata, returning after more than 10 months off due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee.
Torino’s new course in attack will also necessarily have to pass through the collaboration between Simeone and Zapata. The former Atalanta Colombian showed optimism about the possibility of playing together with his new partner: “If we can play together in attack? Yes, I don’t see why not. We know the potential he has, he is a striker who can score goals and he will certainly give us a hand in the offensive department” he said in a recent interview. An attacking pair that could be the key to turn things around after this below-expectation start to the season.
