Matteo Franzoso, 26 next Tuesday, who was born in Genoa and grew up skiing in Sestriere, fell disastrously while training with the rest of the group of Italian World Cup downhill skiers on the Chilean snows of La Parva.

First rescued, Franzoso was transported by helicopter to the Santiago hospital, where he is admitted to intensive care and is being kept in a pharmacological coma in order to further investigate his clinical situation.

Of course, it is known that Matteo has suffered a major head injury and is being kept constantly under control by both Chilean doctors and those of the Italian Winter Sports Federation.

Franzoso made his World Cup debut in the Val Gardena super-G on Dec. 17, 2021. He has competed in 17 races on the major circuit and his best result was a 28th place in the 2023 superG in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
