Marcell Jacobs threatens farewell to athletics after Tokyo disappointment
Not even Marcell Jacobs’ season-best time is enough to reach the 100-meter final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. To be honest, it would have taken a real miracle to make it, considering the numerous injuries during the year and the few races he has run. After running in 10″20 in the batteries, the Olympic gold medalist improved slightly in the semifinals with a 10″16. He starts well, but loses ground in the throwing phase and finishes sixth, staying out of the repechages as well.
“Unfortunately, these are the times I have in my legs right now – he admits dejectedly at the end of the test -: I know I am not worth 10″16 but the season has been what it has been. I said last year that if I had a difficult season I don’t know if I would continue. So many times these microphones have heard words of joy, so many more have become those of sadness”.
“I need some’ time to decide – observes v-. I have always put myself back in the game: next year there are the European Championships where I could do well, but it is difficult to chase seasons, injuries every time. 10″16 I did not even do them when I competed in the long jump“.
