Great performance by Lorenzo Musetti who in Chengdu overcame Alexander Shevchenko in just over an hour with a score of 6-3 6-1. A splendid victory that continues to bring joy to Italian tennis fans after the Billie Jean King Cup victory by the Azzurre tennis players.

Shevchenko nullified two break points in the first service game, but the balance was short-lived: the Kazakh tried to impose his own game made of aggressiveness and quick exchanges, but without being able to scratch the solidity of Lorenzo Musetti. L’Azzurro found depth and precision, snatching serve at 3-2 and closing the first set 6-3 in just over half an hour.

The script did not change in the second partial. Musetti immediately placed the initial break and stretched to 3-1 thanks to his forehand, a shot that set the pace of the match. As the games went on, Shevchenko gradually lost contact, unable to hold up to his opponent’s intensity. Musetti controlled the match with authority and closed with a backhand winner, sealing his passage into the final.

Tuesday Musetti will face Chilean Alejandro Tabilo to lift a trophy three years after the last time. It will be the second chance this 2025 for Musetti, who saw the Monte Carlo Masters slip through his fingers in the final against Carlos Alcaraz.
