World Rowing Championships in Shanghai: Italy d'oro in the four of pairs

Italian masterpiece at the World Rowing Championships being held in Shanghai. After making Italians dream with the fabulous silver medal won at the Paris Olympics, the men’s four pair accomplished another great feat at the Worlds.
Giacomo Gentili, Andrea Panizza, Luca Rambaldi and Luca Chiumento won the gold medal in a final in which the Italian foursome literally dominated. The memory went immediately to the gold medal seven years ago at the World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. On that occasion, there’were Giacomo Gentili, Andrea Panizza and Luca Rambaldi. Filippo Mondelli, the team’s fourth, passed away in 2021 (in his place Luca Chiumento).
The Italian four pair crossed the finish line first, leaving Great Britain and Poland behind. It should be noted that the Netherlands, reigning Olympic champions, was not present.
Bitter, on the other hand, was the women’s two without. Italians Laura Meriano and Alice Codato finished fourth in the final won by Romania, ahead of France and the United States. Finally, in the men’s doubles, Niels Torre and Gabriel Soares finished fourth in their semifinal.
