ATP 500 Beijing, Lorenzo Musetti in the second round

Lorenzo Musetti, world number 9, beat Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, number 36, with a score of 7-6 6-7 6-4 in the first round of the Beijing ATP 500.

Mpetshi Perricard saves two consecutive break points at 1-1, but at 3-3 he failed to save from 15-40 saving only one of the two break points. Musetti then goes to 5-3 saving in turn two break points but when he is serving for the set on 5-4 he recovers from 15-40 but on the third chance for his opponent suffers the counterbreak.

We then go to the tie-break which Lorenzo wins 7-3 not losing a single point on his own serve. In the second set neither player concedes break points (Mpetshi Perricard loses 6 points in six serves, Musetti 5) and so it goes to another tie-break but this time it is the Frenchman who wins it 7-4 after he was down 3-4 with a minibreak.

The third set is decided by a single break point at 1-1, and it is in favor of Musetti, who takes advantage of it and manages to hold all subsequent serves and victoriously close the match after two hours and 25 minutes of play. In the second round, the 23-year-old from Carrara will face another Frenchman, Adrian Mannarino.
