Roma, Gian Piero Gasperini makes no secret of his disappointment over triple penalty miss

Thursday night goes into the archives with numerous regrets for Roma, defeated at home by Lille in the second day of the Europa League: among the negative notes, in addition to the defeat, was the triple missed opportunity, twice by Artem Dovbyk and once by Matias Soulé, to score from the penalty spot, missing what would have been the equalizing goal.
Gian Piero Gasperini, to the microphones of ‘Sky Sport‘, did not hide his disappointment: “It had never happened to me that a team of mine missed three penalties on one occasion – said the Giallorossi coach -. Surely it was a unique and random situation, but there is no doubt that it compromised the result”.
“In matches like this the only thing to do is to take the positive signs– however, Gasperini specified -. Certainly we have to make fewer mistakes, there were some technical errors that need to be fixed, but there were also some positive aspects and we have to go home with the knowledge that we have the means to do better in a still very long competition”.
Having played their first two matches both against Ligue 1 clubs (2-1 win at home to Nice on the first day, 1-0 home loss to Lille in the second), Roma will play their next six matches in the Europa League Phase against Viktoria Plzen on Oct. 23 at the’Olimpico, Rangers in Scotland on Nov. 6, Midtjylland at home on Nov. 27, Celtic in Glasgow on Dec. 11, Stuttgart in Rome on Jan. 22, 2026, and finally Panathinaikos in Athens on Jan. 29.
