Cagliari, defense unknown: Yerry Mina’s injury complicates Fabio Pisacane’s plans

Reduced from the point obtained in the away match against Udinese, Cagliari can be all in all satisfied with its position in the standings at the break but has to deal with a no small problem, the injury of Yerry Mina. The experienced Colombian defender, a regular starter in the Fabio Pisacane-coached lineup, will in fact be forced into a recovery period due to a muscle problem.
“Today – explains the club in a note published Monday – Yerry Mina, who left the field in the 20th minute of Udinese-Cagliari, underwent instrumental tests that showed a low-grade sprain in the soleus of the right calf. The player, freed by the Colombian Federation from commitments with the national team, will begin therapy on the island to recover from the injury: his condition will be monitored by the club”.
The 1994-born center-back is an unknown, but Fabio Pisacane will have to look for alternative solutions in the important post-season matches, particularly for the direct salvation-zone clashes with Hellas Verona and Sassuolo, scheduled for Oct. 26 and 30, respectively. In the center of defense, there will be room for Luperto and Zé Pedro, but the Rossoblù coach will have to evaluate a first reserve so as not to find himself with too short a blanket in such a crucial role as central defender.
In addition to Mina, Luperto, and Zé Pedro, there are two other central midfielders in the squad, youngsters Juan Rodriguez and Nicola Pintus. Both, however, are themselves stopped due to injury and in any case have not yet taken the field this year. Pisacane could therefore decide to adapt other players as needed, such as Adam Obert, or decide to change the scheme: there will be time during the break to see how the islanders will line up in the upcoming matches.
