Italy, Roberto Mancini’s hope

At the Trento Sports Festival, Roberto Mancini confessed that he hopes to return as coach of the national team. All this despite the stormy and sudden farewell in August 2023. Here are the words of the European champion coach with the Azzurri in 2021.

“Yes, returning to the national team remains a dream. In addition to the European Championship, I hoped to win a World Cup as well. The hope is always there, however, then soccer is strange, sometimes it reserves unexpected things”.

“There were some misunderstandings, because it was a moment a little bit’ like that, not even a bad moment in terms of results. We were changing the team a little bit, putting in a lot of young people, we had gone for two consecutive years to the final stage of the Nations League.”

“It would have been better to clarify them, maybe from my side in the first place, to clarify just the situations. “Maybe there wasn&#8217t that and then afterwards you make choices that also turn out to be wrong. Did I hope to be recalled after Spalletti? Honestly yes, however, I knew it would be almost impossible”.

“Gattuso’s national team is improving, there are a lot of guys who were with me, then they are players who are gaining experience, playing important matches, so in my opinion it is a good national team.”

“Rino is a very nice person, I am happy for him that he is in the best place there can be as a coach and I hope he does well. Clearly now the situation is a bit more entangled, but as I said before in soccer sometimes things happen, like Belgium-Macedonia”.
