Inter market, Milan market: goalkeeper hunt, targets also common

Accordingly, AC Milan is looking for a new goalkeeper: Mike Maignan could leave, his contract expires in June, renewal deals are stalled and there are Bayern Munich and Chelsea on his trail. In case of a farewell, the first name for the Rossoneri seems to have become that of Parma’s Zion Suzuki, a profile highly valued by sporting director Igli Tare and who a few months ago was also approached by Napoli.

Inter is also considering the future between the posts. Josep Martinez, formerly of Genoa, is an option to become a starter, as Sommer is expiring and unlikely to renew. Also among the alternatives on the table is Noah Atubolu, a German goalkeeper of Nigerian descent, class of 2002, on the rise at Freiburg. He has played nine games in this first part of the season, with three clean sheets.

But a derby under the Madonnina cannot be ruled out: among the most effective goalkeepers in this start of Serie A is Elia Caprile, class of 2001 from Cagliari. His assured performances and decisive interventions are putting him in the spotlight. The Sardinian club had taken him on loan from Napoli in January and in the summer decided to redeem him for 8 million. Now it is enjoying a goalkeeper who is attracting the interest of several clubs.

Milan and Inter are following him closely for the upcoming summer market. He is not the only name on the list, but he is among the most interesting ones. Cagliari values him at between 25 and 30 million, a high figure but consistent with what he is showing.

Foreign clubs could also step up: Caprile has already had experience outside Italy, with Leeds U23 and a few first-team call-ups when he was led by ‘Loco’ Marcelo Bielsa.

If the big names are moving for Maignan, the situation related to Sommer, for whom there is also the possibility that he will remain as second goalkeeper at Inter, is different, also due to age issues. However, a return to his homeland cannot be ruled out: some rumors speak of a possible landing at Basel, where it all started for him.
