After his incredible triumph at the Shanghai Masters 1000, Valentin Vacherot, who jumped from position number 164 to number 40 in the ATP ranking, gave a long interview to Corriere della Sera. “One part of me is beginning to realize – he began -, the other is still confused”.

In the final, the Monegasque overcame his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in a comeback: “We warmed up together, but before that we shared breakfast. A nice moment, which remains between us”.

Vacherot could have faced Jannik Sinner in the round of 16: “I thought: ‘Playing with Jannik is the best thing that can happen to me’. I followed his match with Griekspoor and his withdrawal, I said to myself: I will have more chances. It went well”.

“In Monte Carlo we never trained together, but close to each other. I often run into him in the gym, in the locker room: he is a nice person, he always wishes me good luck for tournaments, even when they are Challengers. I hope to play against him soon, it would be an honor”.

Closing on the next goal: “After a Masters 1000 there is the Slam, right? But I never thought I would win a 1000, let alone a Slam. Monte Carlo would be the dream. There will be time to think about it, now I just want to enjoy it”.
